Rembrandt's intriguing painting technique has stirred the imagination of art lovers during his lifetime and ever since. In this book, Rembrandt's pictorial intentions and the variety of materials and techniques he applied to create his fascinating effects are unraveled in depth. At the same time, this "archaeology"of Rembrandt's paintings yields information on many other levels.   ‘Rembrandt stared at his ageing face with tragic candour’: Self-Portrait in , aged Photograph: Alamy Narcissism is the subject of James Hall’s superb The Self-Portrait: A .

Rembrandt London: Trustees of. Additional Physical Format: Online version: Mollett, John W. (John William). Rembrandt. London: S. Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington, (OCoLC) This book, as far as I'm concerned, is the absolute best biography on Rembrandt's life, times, and friends and acquaintances, even all about the author Van loon, telling all who happens to read this book of a lot of happening of both their lives, from the year of the year of Rembrandt's wife's death as the beginning, and to Rembrandt's end/5.

This is an old book - My mother gave me a used copy that she must have found at a library book sale. I've had it since my high school or college days. I've kept it with me through many moves from place to place.

Finally read it. It was a wonderful, sensitive biography which emphasized many of of themes in Rembrandt's work. I really loved /5. Rembrandt's canvases are generally large, and no images are reproduced at or near actual size, but most are large enough to adequately observe some detail.

This isn't a big issue. A book with full size color reproductions of all these paintings would be an absurd lb behemoth and hilariously by: 6.

The drawing style is dynamic and Typex is especially strong on faces. As the reviewer of The Guardian wrote, in this book everyone looks like a potato – and we love it.
